Barajevo is located about 30 kilometers south of the center of Belgrade and, if you haven’t visited it yet, it is definitely worth planning a day trip there. You may not have considered this area before, but it offers a wide range of outdoor activities, cultural and historical landmarks, and peaceful natural surroundings. Here you will find hunting areas with various wildlife such as hares, pheasants, and partridges, preserved nature, rural landscapes, clear streams, dense forests, and beautiful scenery around the Duboki Potok Lake, which is rich in fish and perfect for a relaxing weekend in nature.
Church courtyards, traditional wooden churches, charming village landscapes, springs, wells, and fountains invite you to explore this area, while three large pedunculate oak trees, protected as natural monuments, stand proudly and enrich the surroundings with their beauty. Barajevo offers many places ideal for short trips, local food experiences, and relaxing breaks without overnight stays. It is also a great destination for a mini getaway, offering a peaceful rural atmosphere, visits to historic churches, and charming villages. Art lovers, photographers, and nature enthusiasts will find inspiration here, as the landscapes of Barajevo can easily rival those of famous regions in France or Italy.
The main highlights of Barajevo municipality include the excursion areas of Lipovica Forest and Duboki Potok Lake. Together with surrounding meadows and pastures, they provide excellent conditions for hunting, fishing, rural tourism, and outdoor recreation. This peaceful landscape stretches toward Obrenovac municipality and gently descends toward the Sava River, while on the other side it rises toward Kosmaj Mountain, surrounded by Lipovica Forest and Guberevac Forest, with the blue-green lake at its center.
Continuing toward Lazarevac municipality, you will come across many cultural, historical, and religious sites. Enjoy a slow drive through rural surroundings, discover hidden attractions near Belgrade, and even hear stories such as the mysterious legend of the village of Guncati.
In such a natural setting, it is no surprise that farms and eco-households have developed in harmony with nature. Here you can experience organic production of fruits, vegetables, eggs, grains, honey, mushrooms, traditional preserves, and homemade rakija. A special highlight is Zornića Kuća (ethno household & restaurant), offering traditional cuisine, a small zoo, and accommodation built from natural materials. Visitors can also enjoy authentic experiences such as meals prepared in traditional wood-fired ovens.
Among the most important historical landmarks and cultural sites in Barajevo municipality are the Wooden Church in Vranić (18th century), the Stara Mehana (traditional tavern), the old primary school in Vranić, the Matić House, the old school building in Boždarevac, as well as the Roman Bridge and Beljina village center (čaršija). It is also worth mentioning that in Veliki Borak, near Barajevo, the first National Assembly of revolutionary Serbia was held on August 27, 1805, establishing the first governing body of modern Serbia.
Restaurants, traditional taverns, cafés, and motels along the Ibarska highway are known for their lively atmosphere. This area offers a different but exciting nightlife experience on the outskirts of Belgrade, with live music and vibrant energy lasting until the early morning hours. It is a place where traditional taverns with live music create an authentic local experience.
Events such as the Mask Carnival in Boždarevac, Days of Budimir Buca Jovanović in Guncati, the Lisović Night Tournament, and other festivals within the well-known event “Barajevu u pohode” make the visit even more enjoyable. There are also Youth Celebrations held for over three decades in Veliki Borak, the “Open Heart Village” event in Baćevac, and the St. Elijah Festival in Vranić on August 2nd, featuring folklore performances and local traditions.
