Obrenovac
Obrenovac is located about 27 kilometers southwest of Belgrade, following the course of the Sava River, along the route of an ancient Roman road that once led toward Sremska Mitrovica and further to Rome. The town was named after Serbian Prince Miloš Obrenović, who liberated it from Ottoman rule. It developed in a picturesque valley around the confluence of the Kolubara River and the Sava River. Surrounded by two major rivers, smaller waterways, dense forests, and rich natural springs, this area offers a unique natural setting close to the city.
Cultural and historical landmarks, numerous monasteries and churches, ethno houses, traditional taverns, and riverside spots make Obrenovac municipality an increasingly popular destination for day trips near Belgrade. The banks of the Sava provide excellent conditions for outdoor activities and recreational tourism, with plans for marina development that will further enhance the area. Thanks to its rivers, forests, and diverse terrain, Obrenovac is also suitable for fishing and hunting, while thermal and mineral springs create strong potential for spa tourism. Popular nature spots such as Zabran Forest and Zabrežje are ideal for relaxing walks, picnics, and spending time with family or friends. In recent years, accommodation options have improved, making Obrenovac a great choice for a short getaway.
For those looking for adventure, Obrenovac offers unique experiences such as canoeing along the Kolubara or Sava River, exploring riverside excursion areas, and reaching Barička Ada. Visitors can also explore organic farms, including mangalica pig farms, herb and flower nurseries, and traditional gardens. If you stay overnight, you may even experience local fishermen arriving at dawn with fresh fish. With such a diverse offer, Obrenovac continues to grow as a destination, especially in the field of rural and eco tourism.
Another highlight of Obrenovac municipality is its selection of beautiful restaurants, located either along the riverbanks or deep within forest surroundings.
