Lazarevac is located in a picturesque part of the Kolubara region, where the landscapes of central Serbia transition between upper and lower Kolubara, near the Kolubara River. This area is rich in diverse flora and fauna, with an atmosphere of almost untouched nature complemented by abundant water resources. A strong historical heritage, numerous cultural landmarks, traditional houses, monuments, and wooden churches make Lazarevac an attractive destination for day trips with family or friends. Located about 60 km southwest of Belgrade, it offers a peaceful escape from the city while still being easily accessible.
Lazarevac is especially known for its forests, rolling hills, rivers, lakes, and streams. These natural features create excellent conditions for fishing and outdoor activities. The further development of the Kolubara River, the Peštan River, and nearby water bodies will additionally support fishing and leisure tourism. Numerous small lakes and ponds, formed from former riverbeds or human activity, can be found across the municipality. The area is also rich in springs and mineral water sources. Surrounding villages offer great potential for rural and ethno tourism, making Lazarevac an appealing destination for a peaceful weekend escape near Belgrade.
Throughout the year, Lazarevac hosts a variety of cultural, sports, and traditional events such as the Serbian Wine Festival, New Year Street Festival, Cultural Summer, Days of the Battle of Kolubara, Children’s Humor Festival, Moba Gathering, and many others.
The area is also known for its wineries and the famous ethno village Babina Reka. You can explore interesting local stories about the “Skeleton from Vido,” giant sequoia trees, local herbalists, Vrače Hill where Dimitrije Tucović died, an American airplane in Brajkovac, and the film “The Boy from Junkovac.” Located about 55 km southwest of Belgrade, Lazarevac has excellent road connections via the Ibarska highway, making it easy to reach.
