Pariguz Lake – A Peaceful Escape Near Belgrade 🌿
Looking for a peaceful place in nature near Belgrade? Pariguz Lake in Resnik is an ideal spot for a picnic, fishing, and relaxing in a calm natural setting. Located at the foot of Avala Mountain, it offers a unique charm and a sense of escape from the city. The lake in Resnik was created in 1990 by building a dam to prevent frequent flooding. These floods were caused by water from three sources, or streams named Pariguz, which once flowed through the area where the lake is today. Before the lake existed, the water created mud that was believed to have healing properties.

This natural environment makes it an excellent nature spot near Avala for birdwatching, nature photography, and long walks through greenery.
Thanks to its proximity to Avala, you can enjoy an almost mountain-like atmosphere here. Clean air, rich biodiversity, and silence interrupted only by the wind make Pariguz an ideal place to recharge and reconnect with nature. Pariguz Lake is one of the more popular fishing spots in Belgrade and its surroundings. If you enjoy spending hours by the water in peace, this is the place for you. Fishing positions are easily accessible, and the surrounding woodland and views of Avala Mountain enhance the experience. The lake is about 600 meters long, 120 meters wide, and around 12 meters deep, making it suitable for frequent visits by anglers who want to enjoy both fishing and nature.
Pariguz is especially appreciated by fishing enthusiasts due to the variety of fish species in its waters. It is stocked with carp, while anglers regularly catch roach, crucian carp, and other white fish, as well as occasional catfish, chub, or pike. Although larger carp are not caught often, those who do manage to catch one know that Pariguz hides true fishing challenges.
Especially in the early morning, when silence is broken only by the sounds of nature, this place becomes perfect for relaxation and patiently waiting for the “big catch.” If you enjoy peaceful fishing without crowds, Pariguz Lake is the right destination.
A wooden platform is already in place along the shore, while future plans include sun loungers, umbrellas, a marina, cafés, and restaurants. This location has the potential to become one of the most popular picnic spots near Belgrade.
The lakeshore is already connected to a wooden deck on the water, offering a great space for visitors who want to relax and enjoy the view. Plans also include the construction of a modern marina, cafés, a fish restaurant, and areas with sunbeds and umbrellas—further enhancing the tourist offer of Resnik. Additionally, cycling paths and a children’s zone are planned.
Although the full infrastructure is not yet complete, Pariguz Lake already shows strong potential to become one of the most visited nature spots near Belgrade. That’s why visitors today can still enjoy its peaceful atmosphere before it becomes more widely discovered.
Although still partly undeveloped, Pariguz Lake offers everything you need for a break from the city—fresh air, peace, space for barbecuing, and natural shade.

Whether you are a family, a couple, or an individual looking to escape city noise, this lake provides an authentic nature retreat. On weekends, it attracts nature lovers, anglers, and photographers, but without large crowds. Pariguz offers something truly valuable—the feeling of being far away from everything, while actually being just 10 kilometers from the center of Belgrade.
The name “Pariguz” carries a humorous symbolism—some say it comes from the healing mud once believed to help with certain ailments, while others claim it originates from a story where Ottoman soldiers were “caught off guard” during an ambush in the time of Karađorđe.
Whether you prefer folklore or healing myths, the story of Pariguz will make you smile and stay with you. And that is part of its charm.
Pariguz Lake is easy to reach via the Belgrade bypass road, taking the exit at the “Avala” interchange. An alternative route is through Rakovica. In both cases, you will arrive at a roundabout, where you should turn toward the Resnik neighborhood and follow the main street to the local primary school. After the school, the road continues through several smaller streets leading directly to the lake, whose dam appears unexpectedly, hidden behind a small residential area. Signage is modest, so it is recommended to check the route on a map in advance. For those arriving by car, there is a small parking area for about ten vehicles near the shore, making access easier.
Bus line 47 (Slavija – Resnik) takes you very close to the picnic area entrance. After getting off the bus, a short walk through a quiet street leads directly to the lake. In the Resnik neighborhood, there are several local shops and bakeries where you can buy basic supplies. However, keep in mind that there are currently no toilets or organized hospitality facilities at the lake itself. Therefore, it is recommended to bring water, food, and everything you may need for your time in nature.
Whether you are passionate about fishing, nature, forest walks, or simply looking for a quiet and refreshing place to relax, Pariguz Lake picnic area is the perfect destination. Although not fully developed yet, its authenticity and closeness to nature give it a unique charm.
So don’t wait for Pariguz to become another “modern” tourist spot—visit it now, while it still preserves its wild beauty. Bring a blanket, a good book, fishing gear, or simply a smile—nature will take care of the rest.
