Palilula
Palilula is one of the largest municipalities in Belgrade, uniquely spreading across both sides of the city’s great river. This contrast is reflected in its diversity – from modern shopping centers and wide boulevards to traditional farms, vast agricultural fields, and wild forest belts along riverbanks and islands.
Its proximity to the city center, numerous historical, cultural, sports and religious sites, as well as nearby excursion areas and the Danube River, make it an excellent destination for a day trip and relaxing in nature. The Danube has shaped Palilula with its river islands, branches and promenades, while the surrounding area offers hunting grounds, restaurants, shopping centers and unique natural landscapes.
A major highlight is the Danube River, where nautical activities, sports and fishing are активно развијени. Along with the Danube, some of the most beautiful canals in Belgrade can be found on its left bank, stretching from the mouth of the Sava to the banks of the Tamiš, creating a true paradise for fishing and hunting enthusiasts.
If you have a dog and prefer not to take it along, a dog boarding facility is available nearby. Sports centers, private pools, spa facilities, parks and walking areas provide great opportunities for recreation. The offer is further enriched by numerous churches, monasteries and cultural-historical monuments, making every visit memorable.
Residents of Palilula actively promote their local heritage through various initiatives – from documentaries about Veliko Selo, websites about Jabučki and Glogonjski Rit, to community gardening projects such as “Baštalište”. The Palilula market is considered one of the most beautiful in this part of Europe. Unique stories include wild orchids, the famous Toblerone-shaped building, and places where Tito once hosted his guests. The atmosphere is completed by events such as Supernatural Festival, Višnjijada in Ovča, Spring Carnival in Borča, Field Days, May Day celebrations in Besni Fok, Prelivački kotlić and Viktor Vrbovski festival.
